Steve Nash become World Cup reporter

Steve Nash could not enjoy the hustle and bustle of the NBA finals  starting tomorrow until June 17 next. This is because, the Phoenix Suns has been eliminated by the LA Lakers in the western region final. 36-year point guard was looking for something else to do during the summer. He choose to entertain himself by going to South Africa.

Interestingly, Nash flew to South Africa not to watch the World Cup 2010 which starts June 11 until July 11. He participated in particular. Namely, to covering other sides of World Cup he find there. Yes, Nash which is usually become the center of media attention will now switch roles as a news hunter. In short, he will be trying out a role as a journalist.

Well how come? The real story is, for this time, Nash has a production house named Meathawk. Nash production house had become a partner of CBS Sports, a leading sports news site in the U.S., during World Cup 2010. Now, Nash want to be involved directly in such cooperation by becoming one of the reporter.

"The game and the technical sides have been reported by other media. Well, Nash wanted to provide a unique experience to fans around the world by presenting the other side who escaped from the media attention," explained a spokesman for Nash in the official website of CBS Sports.

Nash would not be difficult to inform a variety of unique side in South Africa. Because, despite of his Canadian citizenship, a former Dallas Mavericks star was a native son of South Africa. He was born in Johannesburg and grew up in Victoria. As a teenage, he moved to the United States and began pursuing a dream as NBA players.

Nash report later can be enjoyed in various formats. Starting from video, photos, to articles. Reports in the form of video can be seen via Youtube. In total, he would send eight reams of video, tens of photos every day, and articles that tell his travel and experiences there. Anyway, it’s like a travel blog.

"This project with CBS Sports to combine two of my favorite things in the world, outside of basketball, of course. Namely, soccer and video production," Nash said as quoted by CBS.

"I can not wait filmed many interesting things I found in South Africa, and share a unique experience to the fans. At most, I’ll record the funny moments, they do not meet outside South Africa. That will give you the entertainment,  outside of serious news about World Cup, "said Nash.

Despite being a star NBA since the age of 22 years, Nash has never hide his love of soccer. He was a big fan of Premier League team Tottenham Hotspur and become part of a consortium of owners Vancouver Whitecaps soccer team that will join MLS in 2011. He also often play football in New York.

"My wife and my son in New York. Every time I visit them, I never passing the opportunity to play football. In the city, when I stepped out, the world has welcomed me. Everything is there," Nash explained to the Sports Illustrated.
