Drogba’s arm broken, but his team win

Sion – Ivorian Football Federation confirmed that striker Didier Drogba will continue to defend his country in the World Cup 2010, despite suffering a broken arm. However, the Chelsea striker is likely to be absent during the first match against Portugal at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on June 13 next.

Drogba injury after helping his country to bend Japan 2-0, Friday (6/4/2010). Drogba clash with Japan defender Tulio in the 15th minute and immediately pulled out by coach Sven-Goran Eriksson.

Drogba Injured

"He was immediately rushed to the hospital quickly in Zion. The result of x-rays showed that the Chelsea player right arm was broken. Drogba health is a major priority of the Ivory Coast medical team. Ivorian Football Federation today decided that Drogba will still be taken to World Cup 2010, " according to the official statement from Ivorian football federation.

According to the latest development, Drogba is currently undergoing surgery. "He’s not out of the squad for the World Cup. He can still play," said a spokesman for Ivorian football federation.

"We do not know whether he will be able to play in the first game. It all depends on the decision of the medical team. But, surely, he is not expelled from the squad for the World Cup," he continued

Facing Japan, Côte d’Ivoire had difficulties. Fortunately, before the situation gets worse, they were helped by an own goal defender Tulio Tanaka at minute 13. Gol started from Didier Drogba shooting that wrongly anticipated by Tulio so that the ball into his own goal.

The goal was inflated  Ivory Coast confidence. They were also more consistently perform pressure to Japan. Unfortunately, not yet able to add goals, Drogba elbow injury after a clash with Tulio. He was pulled from the field at minute 18.

According to Eriksson, Drogba was still in pain and is not certain when he can recover. However, he considered that the injury occurred because of a violation and not because of Tanaka bad intentions.

"That’s elbow injury. How bad is it, I do not know. He was so sick," said Eriksson.

"That’s just bad luck. That is not happening because of bad intent or ignorance. (Tulio) did not want to hurt anybody. Football is a game full of contact," he said
