Jerez – Since joining the Repsol Honda in 2006, Dani Pedrosa has always been a major mainstay. This Small drivers was hoped to restore Honda MotoGP triumph in the arena after Valentino Rossi stepped up.
However, three years running, and there was no sign of it going to happen. Entering its fourth year this season, in fact there are signs that Honda will shift its focus. Pedrosa is not the first choice, but Andrea Dovizioso.
Signs that Dovizioso would be better than Pedrosa this season has been shown in the Premiere series at the Losail Circuit, Qatar, on 11 April. The Italian rider is one who steals the attention by finishing in third. Behind Fiat Yamaha duo, Valentino Rossi and Jorge Lorenzo.
In that race, Dovizioso could compete with Rossi in a tight struggle for the first position. However, since making a mistake, he eventually had to settle for only getting 15 points in the third place.
Nevertheless, the third position remains positive results for Dovizioso. Therefore, he was so sure he could compete in the front row this weekend. Although he was less pleased with the slow characters of Jerez circuit, Dovizioso could achieve better results with impressive performance of newest RC212V.
”Frankly, the track there is not one of my favorite and it’s slow track. But, I will strive to continue the positive trends that we have scored in the first series,”said Dovizioso as released by MotoGP site.
Well, if this weekend Dovizioso could be on podium again and beat Pedrosa, No. 1 Honda racer predicate for the small sized racer will be more eroded. Because, in the first series, Pedrosa only finished seventh.
Pedrosa actually have a positive record of each to the race at Jerez. Possibly, it could not be separated from his predicate as a Spaniard driver, so he had got so much support from fans Jerez, which is known as ”crazy”. Since 2005, Pedrosa always on the Jerez podium. In 2008, he even became a winner there.
This positive note could be provision and load for Pedrosa. Because, if he loss by Dovizioso, it will be the amplify reason for Honda team to change their drivers priority.
”We do not undergo the best start this season. But, I expect at Jerez, with the atmosphere that always fantastic and the character of the circuit, the situation can differ,”said Pedrosa.
Pedrosa major problem since the beginning of last year was the vibration in the back of his motorcycle. It was, one of them caused by suspension changes from Showa to Ohlins. Dovizioso did not experience that problem because he’s using that new suspension since the end of last season.
The first practice session today will give picture if Pedrosa able to chase his position from Dovizioso. If he lose again, Pedrosa should be ready to be second on the biggest MotoGP team. As a record, Yamaha and Ducati only release 4 or 5 motors in each series, Honda had possessed six motors in the track
